Training
- The remedial teacher disposes of a qualification to teach. For Primary Education this is the certificate of competence
for primary education. For Secondary Education it is a relevant qualification to teach. This relevant initial training is
the necessary basis for the tasks performed by the remedial teacher.
- Moreover, the remedial teacher disposes of a diploma/certificate of a second phase training for remedial teacher.
Knowledge and Skill
The remedial teacher ought to:
- Dispose of the necessary background knowledge in the field of theoretic models of explanation.
- Be able to apply the appropriate ortho-didactic and pedagogical knowledge of the development of a child with respect to:
- social-emotional development,
- cognition,
- motorism.
- Be able to apply a, for that moment appropriate, conversation technique.
- Be able to perform and report a pedagogical-didactic examination with the appropriate instruments.
- Be able to diagnose with the help of these instruments.
- Be able to draw up a plan of treatment, be able to record it in writing and be able to execute it, making use of the
knowledge of pedagogical and/or ortho-didactic techniques.
- Be able to evaluate this plan of treatment and if necessary to adjust it.
- Know about the didactic line of several methods, nowadays used in various disciplines and fields of education.
- Know about specific means of learning and help.
- Know about various learning strategies and be able to use this knowledge when working with children.
- Know about various models of observation and be able to apply them.
- Dispose of background knowledge of specialisms, such as dyslexia, the highly gifted, early recognition, etc..
- Know about the diverse surrounding disciplines and to be able to refer in time and
In a professional way.
- Know about the prevailing Dutch system of education and the Dutch education policy.
